1. Introduction:

The idea of establishing a college in this rural area was cherished in the mind of some educated, conscious and established persons of this locality, which was materialized in the year 1977-78 with the establishment of Sarala Mohavidyalaya, Rahama being named after the Goddess Sarala, the Goddess of education and its foundation stone was laid by his Holiness “Namacharya Bayababa”. The institution since its very inception strives to attain its academic excellence with an aesthetic and spiritual appeal. Initially affiliation was granted by Utkal University to open 8(eight) subjects in Humanities. Then in the year 1981, affiliation was also granted to open ‘Education’ as a subject in both IA & BA level. Subsequently, the college adopted the +2 & +3 Degree classes from the academic session 1984-85 and it obtained necessary recognition and affiliation from the Govt. of Odisha and Utkal University respectively to impart teaching in +3 Arts with 128 seats and 80 seats in +2 Arts. Later on affiliation has also been granted by Utkal University to impart Honours teaching facilities in Education with 24 seats from the academic year 2018-19. At present the Education department has been providing teaching facilities for +2 classes, Honours classes as well as generic, DSC and DSE-1 & 11 students at +3 levels.

Academic Performance: Since 2010-onwards:

The result at the +2 level students having Education has been up to mark since its very inception. The 24 Honours students appearing their respective semester examinations whose final result is yet to come out in the year 2020-21. Any way some pass students have proved their Excellency in the last ten years to have distinction.

  1. Many students pursue higher studies and complete their Post-Graduation in Anthropology.
  2. A number of students are employed in government and non-government schools.
  3. A lot of students of our department are presently serving in various govt. and private sectors, such as banking, Railways, police, marketing, health care, Mass media and other financial organizations.

Future Plan:

  1. Conducting more departmental seminars, interdepartmental talks, group discussions, etc.
  2. To maintain good synergy between teachers & students
  3. To make students aware about the prospect of opting Anthropology as Honours Course.
  4. The students of this college come from a mixed socio-economic background, so the handling of the students is not homogeneous. In some cases more students are first generation learners, so we treat them differently.
  5. The teachers want the students to be established end so they give utmost priority to their performance and character building.
