1. Introduction:

The conception of setting up a college in this rustic area was first felt by some selected educated, foresighted and distinguished individuals of this area. This kind of dream got its reality when after a public meeting, the college started working in Sailo GP High School with effect from 1977-78 academic session with MIL (o), English as compulsory subject and Political Science, Economics, History and Education. Actually, the college was named after the great Deity Maa Sarala, the foundation stone of it was laid by his Hilliness, Sri Baya Baba in the year 1977. Up to the academic session 1983-84, there was the provision of traditional IA & BA courses. During the year 1983-84, the college opened BA and it got sanctioned by the Govt. of Odisha. From the session 1983-84 onwards, there was the provision of new educational policy for classes started. +2 science was opened with effect from 1984-85 session. Later +2 & +3 commerce classes were opened. It is very obvious that the English teaching was prevalent in all classes. During the session from 1980-81 to 1983-84, there was the provision of introduction of double tutorial classes in a week. The aim of it was to strengthen the English standards of the students.

2. Aim and Objective:

The following specific aims of teaching English are stated below:

  1. To acquire Knowledge
  2. To equip students with ample knowledge and ability to prosecute higher studies in different institutions of prominence both within & outside the state.
  3. To build a strong and ideal character
  4. To make students able to take part in various competitive examinations for jobs in Govt and private sectors.

Teaching learning system:

The teachers of the department impart quality teaching to the students. Teachers most of the time goes to library undertake deep study and deliver their teaching for the easy understanding of the students. Some time also remedial classes are taken for the low-achiever students. Students on the advice of the teachers go to the library for better understanding and conceptual clarity on the subject. Periodic seminars also develop the confidence and creativity among the students.

  1. Many students pursue higher studies and complete their Post-Graduation in Anthropology.
  2. A number of students are employed in government and non-government schools.
  3. A lot of students of our department are presently serving in various govt. and private sectors, such as banking, Railways, police, marketing, health care, Mass media and other financial organizations.

Future Plan:

  1. Conducting more departmental seminars, interdepartmental talks, group discussions, etc.
  2. To maintain good synergy between teachers & students
  3. To make students aware about the prospect of opting Anthropology as Honours Course.
  4. The students of this college come from a mixed socio-economic background, so the handling of the students is not homogeneous. In some cases more students are first generation learners, so we treat them differently.
  5. The teachers want the students to be established end so they give utmost priority to their performance and character building.
