Sociology

History of the Department :

A glorious department like sociology was opened in the academic session 1984-85 with 80 seats in +2 stage duly recognized by the Government and affiliated by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, Bhubaneswar. In +3 Degree stage sociology was introduced from the session 1987-88 with 32 seats for pass students. Honours teaching facilities in the subject was available from the session 2000-01 with 16 seats after being permitted by the Government and affiliated to the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. In the academic year 1916-17, the honours facility extended up to 32 numbers of seats duly recognized by the Government of Odisha under Choice Based Credit System.

Objectives :

  • To provide a foundation for students who plan to pursue their career in sociology.
  • To empower students with all the knowledge and guidance that they need to become worthy professionals.
  • To impart quality and need based education to the students which ultimately enhances their employability.
  • To provide a motivating environment to exploit the full potential of the students

Our mission is to impart vibrant and innovative education and to make the department a leading one in terms of excellence in education, quality and result so as to cope with the charging requirements of the globe.

Cultural Activities :

The Department organizes the following cultural activities.

  1. Teachers’ Day
  2. Welcome and farewell ceremony
  3. Ganesh Puja
  4. Saraswati Puja

Future Plan:

  1. Conducting more departmental seminars, group discussions, etc.
  2. To maintain good synergy between teachers and students
  3. A guidance and counseling cell is to be formed for the all round development of personality of the individual students.
  4. The department is running with performing various extracurricular activities such as literacy day, Aids Day, Environment Protection Day and various felicitation programme etc with a congenial atmosphere among the students and teachers. It seems like a big family of peaceful, coexistence, co-operation, external love & affection with an unbeaten emotional bondage.
