1.Brief introduction:

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Keeping a worthy view in mind, the traditional BA course was opened in the year 1983-84 with Odia as a pass subject. The department of Odia was headed by Sri Gouranga Charana Choudhury with other eminent lecturers. The department of Odia with honors subject was opened in the year 1992-93 with 16 seats in honors and was also headed by Sri Gouranga Charana Choudhury. The continuous efforts of all teaching staff helped to establish a concrete foundation of a literary environment. Since then, the department of Odia being a long-way-runner, produced a huge number of qualified, civilized and benevolent students for the betterment of their own and society. In the course of time, seats in Odia honours subject have increased from 16 to 48 in the year of 2016-17.

2. Aim and Objectives:

  1. To provide a literary environment for the development of students’ ideas, thought on Odia literature.
  2. To develop their creativeness which enable them to write on different aspect of Odia literature.
  3. To create awareness on making computational grammar and its utility.
  4. To develop personal value and understanding of students.
  5. To develop their competitive attitude and intellectual ability.

Prospect:

  1. Many students have pursued higher studies in Odia in different universities of Odisha.
  2. A number of students are employed in government and non-government schools and colleges.
  3. A lot of students of our department are serving in private sector such as marketing, mass media, and health care.
  4. A number of students are engaged in creative writing in various reputed magazine.

Future Plan:

  1. Conducting more national seminar on Odia literature and language.
  2. To make students aware about the prospect of opting Odia as honours subject.
  3. To maintain good relationship between teacher and students.
  4. To give utmost priority to students for their performance and character building.
  5. To develop their contemporary literary attitude.
  6. To guide them for different competitive examination.
